How to Unshrink Cashmere?

by Tyler Hawkins

It is possible to unshrink cashmere, but it is a delicate process that requires patience and care. Here are the steps you can follow to try to unshrink your cashmere garment:

  1. Fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild detergent or baby shampoo.

  2. Soak the cashmere garment in the water for about 15-20 minutes. Do not agitate the water or wring the garment, as this can cause the fibers to stretch and become damaged.

  3. Gently squeeze the excess water from the garment and lay it flat on a clean, dry towel.

  4. Shape the garment to its original size and form and allow it to air dry. Avoid wringing or twisting the cashmere, as this can cause it to lose its shape.

  5. Once the cashmere is dry, you can gently steam it with an iron on a low heat setting to help it regain its original shape.

It is important to be gentle and handle the cashmere carefully throughout the process to avoid damaging the fibers. If you are unsure about the process or if your cashmere garment is particularly delicate, it may be best to take it to a dry cleaner or professional cleaner for assistance.
